Hester Andrew Mark, fondly known as Jarvis, peacefully departed this life at the age of 55 on Dec. 10, 2024, at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Born in Dominica to Catherine Xavier and James Mark, Hester’s journey began on June 28th, 1969. He was a proud alumnus of Ivanna Eudora Kean High School. Following his high school education, he embarked on a culinary journey that would define his professional life. He started his culinary career at the Grand Palazzo Hotel on St. Thomas, where his passion for cooking truly ignited.
Hester’s career path took him to Maryland, where he worked in various esteemed country clubs, including Congressional, Chevy Chase, and Manor Country Clubs. His culinary excellence culminated in his final role at the Marriott Marquis Washington, D.C.
Known for his unwavering dedication, Hester worked tirelessly at his craft, always striving to provide the best for his family. Despite life’s challenges, he embraced moments of joy and cherished attending music concerts in the park and sharing his culinary skills. No matter the storms in his life, as he would say, he “weathered the storm” with such an optimistic outlook. Having undergone dialysis for the past 18 years, three times a week, and then being on his feet for 10 to 12 hours was a testament to God’s favor each day.
Hester is survived by his partner Cheryl Branford; sons Kaya Mark and Sean Mark; daughter Serrina Branford; grandson Dakari Branford; mother Catherine Xavier; sisters Carol Xavier-Henry, April Xavier, Cathy Xavier, Hami Tricia Robinson Richards, Aynata Mark, and Imoniqui Mark; and brother Benoit Xavier jr.
