Tourism leaders working with the Division of Festivals welcomed hundreds of music fans from St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix to the 2021 Love Fete soca spectacular. The event was part of a mini St. John Festival, celebrating Saturday’s Emancipation Day and Sunday’s Independence Day holidays.

Tourism Commissioner Joe Boschulte said he was pleased to see the energetic and vaccinated crowd enjoying a night out at the Port Authority Parking Lot, known to St. Johnians as the gravel lot. The night’s musical lineup included Spectrum Band, Rudi Live from St. Croix, Calypso Monarch John Gatti, Cool Session Brass and Trinidad Soca queen Patrice Roberts, backed up by the Request Band from New York.

Trinidad Soca queen Patrice Roberts said she “felt free” after missing the chance to perform for a year and a half because of Covid-19 restrictions back home. (Judi Shimel photo)
