La Plancha del Mar co-owner Jason Howard, above center, and hoisting his trophy at right, was named the St. John Iron Bartender.
The best mixologists on St. John stirred, shook and strained their finest concoctions at Motu Bar’s Iron Bartender Competition on Saturday, June 22.
After three rounds of fierce competition, La Plancha del Mar owner Jason Howard took the title of Iron Bartender St. John.
His winning cocktail from the first round was called the St. Maarten and was a mix of Patron Silver tequila, Aperol, fresh grapefruit juice and a squeeze of fresh lemon, shaken, carbonated and served over ice in a Collins glass and sipped through a lemongrass straw.
For round two, Howard wowed the judges with a BBB — Bourbon Bacon Bloody — made with Makers Mark Bourbon, pickled jalapeno, bacon, tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce and club soda. Howard then used an ISI cream whipper and served the strained cocktail over ice in a highball glass garnished with bacon.
Howard’s final cocktail, ensuring his win, was a Dark Coco Crush. The winning cocktail was made with Pyrat Rum, Patron XO Dark Coco, fresh orange juice and Sriracha, shaken with ice and strained into a chilled martini glass.
Cheers and congratulations Jason!
