Julius E. Sprauve School students and staff celebrated the culmination of a successful week of V.I. Territorial Assessment of Learning testing with a fun day on Friday afternoon, March 14, at the Winston Wells ball field. JESS had a 100 percent attendance rate during testing week, March 3-7, which helps the school achieve Adequate Yearly Progress, explained JESS Principal Mario Francis.

“The administration and staff got together and planned this fun day and barbecue to encourage students to do well on their tests,” said Francis.

Students earned points during testing week, and were able to trade in those points for prizes including activity books, pencil cases, and sunglasses and jewelry, which were the day’s hot items, according to JESS Assistant Principal Brenda Dalmida. Secondary school students enjoyed a kickball game with staff in the afternoon.

“The students are telling us they’re going to get revenge,” said Dalmida.

Elementary school students brought the fun to the V.I. National park ball field later in the afternoon, where they enjoyed hula hoop, jump rope and other games.

In addition to hot dogs and hamburgers served up by JESS staff, students enjoyed baked goods courtesy of the Future Business Leaders of America and the family and consumer sciences class.

“We’re having fun and the kids are having a blast,” said Dalmida.
