Joseph Sibilly Jr. of St. Thomas will represent the U.S. Virgin Islands at the 2026 Latin America Amateur Championship, scheduled for Thursday through Sunday at Lima Golf Club in Lima, Peru, the U.S. Virgin Islands Golf Federation announced in a press release.
The 24-year-old golfer will be making his fifth appearance at the championship, the most ever by a golfer representing the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to the press release.
Now in its 12th year, the Latin America Amateur Championship is a 72-hole stroke play event that brings together 108 top amateur golfers from Latin America, the Caribbean, Central America, and Mexico. The tournament was created through a partnership among the Masters Tournament, The R&A and the United States Golf Association to promote amateur golf across the region. The champion earns exemptions into the Masters, The Open Championship and the U.S. Open, the press release stated.
“Joe continues to inspire our golfing community,” said Hugo Hodge, president of the U.S. Virgin Islands Golf Federation. “His dedication to representing the USVI on golf’s international stage embodies the resilience and passion of our athletes.”
Sibilly has competed internationally despite limited local facilities. His previous appearances at the championship have provided experience competing against top amateur players from across the region, the release stated.
The federation encouraged residents to follow Sibilly’s progress during the tournament through live scoring and coverage available at laacgolf.com, it stated.
