Juanita Encarnacion Dies at 94

Juanita Encarnacion

Juanita Encarnacion, also known as “Juana of Mt. Pleasant Frederiksted,” died on June 16 at the Governor Juan Francisco Luis Hospital. She was 94 years old.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Ramona Garcia and Agapito Sanes; spouse, Andres Encarnacion; sons: Jose Andres Encarnacion Sr., Claudio Manuel Encarnacion and Eulogio Encarnacion; grandson, Jose Encarnacion Jr.; nephews: Armando Jr. and Ricardo Sanes; daughter-in-law, Socorro Encarnacion; and sister-in-law, Raquel Sanes.

She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Eleuteria “Teya” Encarnacion (caregiver); foster daughters: Rosanga De La Rosa, Norma Rivera and Diana Cabrera; sons: Francisco Encarnacion and Juan Felipe Encarnacion Sr.; grandchildren: Sandra, Mario, Juan Felipe II, Juan Felipe III, N’Neeka Encarnacion, Sebastian and Felipe Encarnacion, Jessica Dazzle, Ignacio “Tony” Ventura, John Phillipe Ventura and Steve Harowitz; and adopted granddaughter and caregiver, Anna Lise Peets.

She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Sofia and Ignacio III, Ventura, Hakim, Clercien, Alisha and Ajani Pitcairm, Jayla Williams, Jamel Taylor and Jabari Clercien, Jahdilyah, Damare, Jevonte and Mario Jr. Encarnacion, Pearl and Celestial Dazzle, Ahmire and Naseem Encarnacion, Shanara, Anarah, Ahkenye and Azai Encarnacion;  foster grandchildren: Walter, Yoshiri, Juderis and Jomair Rivera, Arianna Mulholand, Kayden de la Rosa, Joseph Figueroa Jr., Dian and Maicol Castillo, Ariel Mantilla and Nashley de los Santos; granddaughters-in-law: Cynthia Gomez Martin, Mikaela Romero and Nancy Encarnacion; and sisters: Awilda and “Titi” Sanes.

Other survivors include: brother, Armando Sanes Sr.; niece, Wanda Sanes; daughters-in-law: Genevieve, Johanna, Geraldine, Aracelis and Daisy; brothers-in-law:  Victor, Aurelio and Justo Encarncaion; sisters-in-law: Julia, Amelia, Celestina, Yvonne and Edda Encarnacion; foster son-in-law, Joseph Figueroa Sr.; former son-in-law, Ignacio A. Vantura Sr.; special friends: Antonio Maysonet, Fidelina Belardo, the members of Iglesia de Dios Pentecostal, members of Ay-Ay Cultural Dancers, members of TSK Band, members and staff of Richmond Senior Center, 1927 Familia Encarnacion Group, DHS Head Start Program and Foster Parents Program, Maria Ayuso and David DeGazon, the Falero, Garcia and Gutier families; cousins Lydia and Anastacio Sanes; and a host of other cousins relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

The viewing will take place at 9 a.m. followed by funeral services at 10 a.m., Friday, June 30, at the James Memorial Funeral Chapel in La Grande Princesse. Interment will be at the Kingshill Cemetery.
