Karen Samuel, Lucy Portlock and Maho Glass Artists To Be Featured at Bajo el Sol Opening on May 6

A vivid watercolor painting by Lucy Portlock details a lively underwater scene.

Bajo el Sol Gallery will host an opening reception for Karen Samuel, Lucy Portlock, and two very talented glass blowers from Maho Glass on Friday, May 6, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Samuel is recognized for both her art and her giving back to her community.  As an accomplished artist she will unveil new works which include her special talent at capturing the people and substance of St. John.

Portlock will unveil new work painted in water colors. Her capture of the underwater world around St. John gives the viewer the feeling of being there and why everyone is responsible for its preservation.

Color is also a definite aspect of the glass sculpture created by Mariel Bass and Greg Lee, two very talented artists of Maho Glass. Art derived from glass is not a new concept, and art derived from recycled glass has grown to recognizable value due in part to these two talented artists. Working in tandem, they create exciting pieces in many shapes, sizes and colors.

Come to the reception on May 6 for a chance to see all of their work and meet the artists.

Enhancing the evening will be beautiful classical guitar music by David Laabs. The gallery’s regular hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The gallery is located at the top of the stone steps in Mongoose Junction. The artists will be featured during the month of May.
