Labor Hosts Employer Forums to Target Key Sectors of Territory’s Industry

USVI Department of Labor

On April 18, the V.I. Department of Labor (VIDOL) hosted an employer forum to discuss Workforce Development programs that address challenges faced by key sectors, such as tourism and hospitality. This candid discussion, led by Labor Commissioner Gary Molloy and facilitated by the new Workforce Development Leadership team, was an open forum with two sessions focused on the small business community represented by the Chambers of Commerce and the Hotel and Tourism Associations.

“The employer forum and engagements like this are opportunities to listen to the voice of our customers, to share useful information regarding the employment and training programs offered by our Division of Workforce Development and to collaborate on solutions. Businesses provide meaningful employment and experiences that benefit the entire community. The Department of Labor is focusing on encouraging the honest discussions and feedback necessary to get the territory back to work again,” said Molloy.

The transition and development of the worker is a heavy focus for the department. It seeks to foster the transformation of V.I. businesses from employers to training grounds, apprenticeship sponsors and on-the-job training providers, which addresses skill shortages and overall workforce development. The Department of Labor has hosted engagements monthly to help introduce and promote programs for employment training opportunities; this forum will continue within key sectors of various industries.
