Long-time Resident Alan Smith Sworn In as Magistrate Judge

Long-time St. John resident Alan Smith was sworn in as a Magistrate Judge for the V.I. Superior Court system on Tuesday, June 30, in a historic ceremony at the Alexander Farrelly Justice Center.

The Magistrate Division was established in 2007 and last week’s appointees were the first implantation of the division. Along with Smith, Kathleen Mackay was sworn in for the St. Thomas/St. John district and Jessica

 

Gallivan and Miguel Camacho were sworn in for the St. Croix division.

Smith, a former Chief Public Defender and First Assistant Attorney General and Commissioner of Planning and Natural Resources, will serve at least a four-year term as Magistrate Judge before he’s up for reappointment.

Smith’s wife Magda was at this side during the ceremony.

The Magistrate Division was established to help the V.I. Superior Court in providing efficient and timely resolution of disputes.
