Louise Arguin Dies at 87

The family of Louise Arguin announces her passing in Staunton, Va., on Dec. 8, at the age of 87. Louise was born on St. Thomas on Feb. 21, 1936, the daughter of the late Anthony and Anne Marie (Danet) Quetel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger Arguin; brothers: Frank and Thomas Quetel; and sister, Elisa O’Dea.

Surviving Louise are her loving children: Nicole Oechslin, married to Reid, of Staunton, Va., and son, Paul Arguin, married to Chris Taylor, of East Sandwich, Mass.; granddaughters: Nora and Lucie Oechslin; sisters: Evelyn McLaughlin and Betty (Francis) Farrell; brothers: William (Margaret) Quetel and Julian (Anna) Quetel; as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Louise was a graduate Sts. Peter and Paul High School Class of 1953. After graduating, she earned a degree in accounting from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York. She lived and worked in New York City, where she met her husband, Roger. After marrying at Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral in 1966, they settled in Long Island, New York, and started their family. After Roger’s untimely death in 1970, Louise returned with her young daughter and son to St. Thomas.

Raising her children and providing for her family on her own as a young widow, Louise worked hard and became a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur. She opened niche businesses including a laundromat and video rental store.

She was a graduate of the Realtor Institute and became a partner in McLaughlin, Arguin and Curreri Realtors. After a successful career selling real estate and managing her own properties, including the family corporations Anquet and Telarg, she operated St. Thomas Title and Abstract for many years in Frenchtown. She also proudly volunteered her time with United Way and St. Anne Parish.

Louise discovered the joy of traveling by cruise ship, venturing around the world, and visiting almost 100 countries. In addition to traveling, she was brought much joy by her family and friends, the Frenchtown community and her friends at the St. Thomas Bridge Club.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Anne Chapel in Frenchtown on March 6, 2024.
