Prosecutors charged a St. Thomas man with murder Thursday for allegedly killing two 21-year-old men in February. He’d been acquitted of robbery and gun crimes in April 2022.
Police said Ky’Mani Dolphin, 21, shot to death Jequan George and Taheem Monsanto as they sat in a dark-colored SUV shortly after 2 a.m. on Norre Gade, St. Thomas, near the Lutheran Church. Another man was also shot but survived after emergency treatment at Schneider Regional Medical Center.
A judge issued an arrest warrant for Dolphin on March 21 and he was taken into police custody Wednesday, police said. Dolphin was charged with homicide, first-degree murder, second-degree murder, using a firearm during the commission of a first-degree murder, using a firearm during the commission of a second-degree murder, and unauthorized possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence. Bail was set at $750,000.
Dolphin was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections awaiting an advice of rights hearing.
Dolphin was arrested April 9, 2022 for allegedly threatening witnesses at the courthouse where he awaited trial for an alleged May 2019 gunpoint robbery. He was arrested and charged with retaliating against/threatening a witness, preventing/dissuading a witness from attending trial, and disturbance of the peace. A Jury found Dolphin not guilty of the robbery and weapons charges two days after the intimidation arrest.
In March 2022, police allegedly found unlicensed firearms on Dolphin while responding to a domestic violence call at his girlfriend’s residence.
