A St. Croix man was arrested Thursday after police said he fired a gunshot into a woman’s vehicle as she drove past his car in the Estate Calquohoun area on St. Croix, grazing the victim and damaging her vehicle, the Virgin Islands Police Department reported.
The 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of shots fired at approximately 7:49 a.m. Responding detectives and patrol officers made contact with the victim, who told police that Cliffe Richards fired a gunshot directly at her as she drove by his vehicle, according to the police report.
Investigators determined that Richards fired one round from his licensed firearm into the victim’s vehicle as she passed. The victim sustained a graze injury, and police observed visible damage to the vehicle, the police report stated.
A witness corroborated the victim’s account, telling police that Richards fired the shot as the victim drove past his vehicle, the report stated.
Police later made contact with Richards, who was advised of his Miranda rights. Richards told officers he felt threatened by the victim and fired one shot at her vehicle, police said.
Richards was detained and transported to the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station, where he was booked. He was charged with attempted murder first, assault first, reckless first, assault third, brandishing, exhibiting or using a deadly weapon, and carrying or using a dangerous weapon, according to police.
Bail was set at $100,000. Richards was unable to post bail and was remanded to the John Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending an advice of rights hearing scheduled for Friday, police said.
