Update: Man Wanted for Attempted Murder Arrested

Lafayette Artis, 29, of St. Croix was arrested on Thursday evening and charged with attempted murder in connection with an incident in October, the V.I. Police Department reported.

An arrest warrant was issued Thursday morning for Artis in connection with a stabbing attack on a man on Oct. 3 at Estate Richmond Beach in Christiansted in the vicinity of the David Hamilton Jackson Terrace housing community, police said.

Detectives investigating the incident discovered that Artis and the victim had an ongoing feud and allege that Artis attacked the man, stabbing him in the upper back and the back of the neck, police said.

An arrest warrant for Artis was issued by the Superior Court of the Virgin Islands on Thursday morning and he was arrested at 6:40 p.m., according to the report. Bail was set at $100,000. Unable to post bail, he was remanded to the John Bell Correctional Facility, pending his advice of rights hearing.

The Virgin Islands Police Department is seeking assistance in locating 29-year-old Lafayette Artis, who is 159 pounds and 5 feet, 11 inches tall. He is known to frequent the Christiansted Boardwalk, Red Brick and Grove Place.
