Opinion: 40th Anniversary St. Croix Central High School Scholarship

We, the St. Croix Central High School Class of 1983 had the pleasure and honor of presenting two 40th Anniversary Alma-Mater $1,000 scholarships to two very deserving and outstanding young men this year.

Since 1993, the application for this scholarship has been open to all male students of the CHS graduating classes encouraging male students to take every opportunity to further their educations. As of 2023, this is our third scholarship presentation with two previously awarded $1,000, including a donation to a University of the V.I. Scholarship fund. For our 40th high school anniversary our plan was to award the same, but our t-shirt sales fundraiser went so well that we decided to award a second scholarship in the same amount.

On June 14, the proud members of the Class of 1983 presented checks to Yordy Valdez Gil and Daudi Stout, two recent 2023 CHS senior class graduates.

Both young men will be attending UVI in the coming Fall term. Gil, an outstanding young scholar with a thirst for knowledge, will be majoring in Business. And Stout, a remarkable young scholar with intellectual curiosity, is sure to be a standout while majoring in Theater & Fine Arts.

Their families are enormously proud of their accomplishments. And with their unwavering commitment to continued academic excellence, dedication to their future goals, and passion for learning, they will be refreshing examples to the rest of their community and other students aspiring to excellence.

CHS Class of 1983 sentimentalizes, “May their insatiable appetites for knowledge continue to help them grow in their fields of study and allow them to make marks on society for many years to come. And may their exemplary characters and academic prowess be examples and role models to their peers and future graduates of St. Croix Central High School.”
