Virgin Islands Office of Veterans Affairs Director Patrick Farrell has been elected senior vice president of the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs, a press release announced.
The election took place March 1 during NASDVA’s annual mid-winter conference. Farrell was elected unopposed by fellow state and territorial veterans affairs directors, according to the press release.
Farrell previously served as the organization’s junior vice president. His new role places the U.S. Virgin Islands in a leadership position within the national association, which works with states and territories on policies, benefits and services for veterans and their families, the press release stated.
“I do not view this as a personal achievement, but as meaningful progress for the Veterans of the Virgin Islands,” Farrell said. “Serving in this capacity creates greater access to the conversations and decision-makers who can accelerate positive change. It also expands my ability to advocate on behalf of Veterans nationwide as they deserve strong representation, and I am committed to that mission.”
Farrell also voiced support for Terry Prince, director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, who was elected president of NASDVA.
“I look forward to working alongside President Prince and the executive committee as we continue strengthening collaboration among states and territories to improve outcomes for Veterans and their families,” Farrell said.
The association’s annual fall conference will be held in St. Thomas in August 2027 after the territory won the bid to host the event. The conference is expected to bring veterans affairs leaders from states and territories across the country to the Virgin Islands, the release stated.
Farrell said his focus remains on ensuring that veterans in the Virgin Islands have access to benefits and services while contributing to national efforts that support veterans across the United States.
