“No Fleas, Please” ACC Flea Market To Benefit Homeless St. John Animals

By Bonny Corbeil

Thankfully we made it through September with no storms! Now it is time to jump into pre-season “spring” cleaning, which happens in October for us islanders. It is a great time to get rid of furniture, clean out closets and empty shelves of those items not used, sitting around accumulating dust and taking up space.

Thankfully we made it through September with no storms! Now it is time to jump into pre-season “spring” cleaning, which happens in October for us islanders. It is a great time to get rid of furniture, clean out closets and empty shelves of those items not used, sitting around accumulating dust and taking up space.

There are a number of cable shows on TV that encourage people to “Clean Sweep” their homes to help clear their minds and create the kind of home space that helps them feel more restful and peaceful.

With this in mind the Animal Care Center is sponsoring its first annual “No Fleas, Please Flea Market,” Saturday, October 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Winston Wells ball field. Donations are needed, so stop by to see and buy the treasures and help St. John animals.

We need you to help us care. It is guaranteed to be a fun daytime event to help raise much-needed funds for our ACC to help homeless and abused animals on St. John. You can rent a car space for $30, which entitles you to bring all of your own stuff including clothes — anything and everything that you want to sell for your own profit.

We encourage you to come out and make this your annual October family event. Please call Connie Joseph at the ACC shelter to reserve your space. Bring the kids and your pooch on a leash to participate in a fun day! Hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks will be on sale, all benefiting our ACC.

There is a trailer located next to our ACC just waiting for your donations. We ask you to box your items so that we can store them easily. No clothes, please, to our ACC donation trailer.

If you are a villa management company and have furniture to give us, we may be able to pick it up. If you have a truck and want to help us pick up items, please let us know. We are hoping for books, furniture, pictures, knick- knacks, artwork or any items or treasures that can help us raise funds.

Are you a business who has overstocked or hard to sell items that you would like to donate? Please simply call  Joseph at 774-1625 or drop them off at the ACC between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

ACC Car Raffle

1992 Suzuki Swift car to be raffled on Saturday October 20, 2007.

ACC Board Member Oriel Smith has donated a 1992 Suzuki Swift with only 37,777 miles. It has an automatic transmission, new tires, is air-conditioned, has new shocks, a new battery, AM/FM radio, four doors, and has been inspected for one year. This car is in very good condition. For $10 a chance, or four chances for $35, you can win this vehicle and help our ACC! Tickets are available at Connections in Cruz Bay and Coral Bay; The Mail Center and St. John Hardware.

One more thought: Twenty years ago we all informally gathered together at our tennis courts to trade and sell items. The best part of that event was the gathering. Let’s come together, lime and sell; catch up on stories and happenings, and simply put the love back in Love City.

This really is a wonderful way to connect as a community and help animals in need. See you there!
