Local artists Casmore E’Bas, a teacher from Charlotte Amalie High School, and his son, Casico Doce E’Bas, came out and painted a beautiful mural in August, across from the Nisky Center, going up Crown Mountain Road.
St. Thomas-Water Island Administrator Avery Lewis told the Source that he has been seeing these walls for years and lives in the city area. “Every time I look up the hill, I see a safari passing the wall, and I said, I’m tired of seeing a bare wall. Let’s add some life and beauty to the corner. Clean up the place, beautify the place, not just for our visitors but for our residents. You bring your family in from the states driving by. You don’t want to keep seeing a bare wall,” said Lewis.
Lewis contacted Gov. Albert Bryan Jr., the Public Works and Tourism departments about commissioning a mural, which aligns with the governor’s objectives to clean and beautify the island, he said. Now residents and visitors alike enjoy a colorful welcome to St. Thomas.
