Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett released the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)’s plan to renew funding for homeless programs:

“I am pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $206,369 for homeless programs here in the Virgin Islands as part of their Continuum of Care (CoC) grants. The CoC program provides critically needed support to local programs on the front lines of serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

Traditionally, applications for this funding are processed in a much more methodical manner, but the process was dramatically streamlined because communities have been consumed with COVID-19 response and have limited capacity.

The funds provided can support a variety of interventions designed to assist individuals and families experiencing homelessness, particularly those living in places not meant for habitation, located in sheltering programs or at imminent risk of experiencing homelessness.
