Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett shared the following statement on her appointment as ranking member of the Subcommittee on National Intelligence Enterprise for the 118th Congress:

“I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as the lead Democrat and ranking member on the House Intelligence Subcommittee on National Intelligence Enterprise and as a member of the Subcommittee on Defense Intelligence and Overhead Architecture.

“The Intelligence Committee is charged with oversight of the Intelligence Community of the U.S. Government as well as the Military Intelligence Program.  The committee serves a vital function for our nation as the eyes and ears of Congress and in monitoring and overseeing the activities of the Intelligence Community to properly maintain our national security.  The Subcommittee on National Intelligence Enterprise, on which I will serve as Democratic Ranking Member, has legislative and oversight responsibilities over programs and policies of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the intelligence components of non-military federal agencies including the Department of Justice, the Department of Energy, the Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security.

“Selection of members to serve on the Intelligence Committee is made by Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy can disapprove. Members on the Intelligence Committee serve for two congressional terms and have the ability to serve two additional terms. Presently, there are 11 Democratic members on the Intelligence Committee. Congresswoman Plaskett is the first member of a territory to sit on the Committee and is also the only African-American woman on the committee during this term of Congress.

“Congratulations to my democratic colleagues on their subcommittee assignments,” said Ranking Member Jim Himes. “With an expansive array of backgrounds and experience, the members of this committee are thoughtful, diverse, and dedicated leaders with a deep commitment to the oversight of the National Intelligence Community. I look forward to working alongside this talented group over the next two years.

“Congresswoman Plaskett also shared, “I continue to be honored by Leader Jeffries’ confidence in me. I look forward to working with him and my Democratic colleagues to put people over politics, work to lower costs, create better paying jobs, and make our communities safer by working with whomever to support and advocate for everyday Americans.”
