Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett released the following statement:

“Yet again, the Republican Conference of the House has placed our chamber in a precarious position, refusing to find common ground and break from their extremism. The last time the House voted on removing a speaker was 1910, which was unsuccessful. Rep. McCarthy is the first House speaker to be removed from the job by a House vote, which is a clear indication of the ongoing contention within the Republican Party and his and his party’s inability to work in a constructive, bipartisan manner.

“As mentioned by Leader Hakeem Jeffries, my Democratic colleagues and I remain willing to find common ground to move us forward as a body. Even more importantly, unlike the Republicans who have spent the last 10 months working to destabilize our rule of law, weaponize Congress for their power and push an agenda that continues to support corporations at the expense of the American people, Democrats continue to put people over politics and come to work every day ready to support the American dream for all.”
