Police were investigating Monday the death of a St. Croix woman found dead in a chair in her home.
A neighbor started checking in on Jendiya Mendez, 43, in early September when she noticed large scabs on Mendez’s face. Mendez had said she’d fallen.
When Mendez, also known as Flaca, didn’t answer the door on Thursday and again on Friday, the neighbor asked for assistance from the office at the Harbor View Apartments. A maintenance worker found Mendez’s body in a chair. Police said she was “bruised-up, disheveled” and nude.
Police were awaiting an autopsy report to determine the cause of death.
