With Equator Drift, 81C continues its mission of bringing internationally recognized artists into dialogue with the Virgin Islands community while expanding access to contemporary art and artist-led education.

81C is pleased to present Equator Drift, a visiting artist pop-up exhibition featuring paintings by Raisa Nosova, opening Friday, March 6 from 6–9 PM at the 81C Arts gallery in historic Charlotte Amalie.

The exhibition introduces Nosova’s expressive landscape paintings, which explore atmosphere, shifting light, and the subtle movement of natural environments through energetic brushwork and vivid color. Equator Drift reflects the artist’s ongoing interest in landscapes as emotional and sensory experiences rather than literal depictions, evoking the dynamic relationship between land, climate, and perception. The “first friday” opening reception is free and open to the public. Equator Drift will be on view through March at 81C with gallery hours Tues-Sat 5-PM.As part of the exhibition programming, 81C will host a Visiting Artist Youth Enrichment Workshop led by Raisa Nosova on Sunday, March 8 from 10 AM to 2 PM. During the session, Nosova will guide students through a structured lesson plan developed from her own studio practice, offering participants insight into her approach to landscape painting, color, and expressive mark-making. The workshop is free and open to the public for youth ages 8+, providing young artists with a rare opportunity to learn directly from an internationally exhibiting artist while developing their own creative voice through hands-on instruction.
Raisa Nosova holds an MFA from New York University’s Steinhardt School and has received numerous honors including the George T. Dorsch Art History Grant, the Fannie Kipnes Memorial Award for Oil Painting, the David and Leon Antar Memorial Award for Sculpture, and the Brussels Capital Film Festival Award for Short Film.

Her career includes artist residencies at the Berlin Art Institute, the Eileen S. Kaminsky Family Foundation in Jersey City, and the Ramona Residency in Houston. Nosova has exhibited widely in the United States and internationally. Solo exhibitions include 80WSE Gallery in Manhattan, La Galerie Emeric Hahn in Paris, Gallery 51 in Montclair, New Jersey, and a two-person exhibition at Theodore Art in Manhattan.

Her work has also been presented in group exhibitions across Amsterdam, Brussels, Rome, and Singapore and has been featured in publications including The New York Times, Jersey City Times, Create! Magazine, Milano Pavia News, Milked Magazine, Street Art NYC, and the Hudson Reporter.

Nosova’s public art projects are located in Milan, Paris, Berlin, New York City, Jersey City, Hoboken, and St. Petersburg, Florida.
