Prominent Police Lieutenant Arrested For DUI

The Virgin Islands Police Department arrested one of their own on drunk driving charges after an early-evening car crash Monday.

Walton Jack, a prominent VIPD lieutenant, failed three standard field sobriety tests after the collision around 8 p.m. on Northside Road near Chocolate BBQ Place in La Grande Princess, St. Croix, police said. At the police station, Jack refused a breathalyzer test. He was charged with negligent driving and driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor. He posed $1,000 cash and was released pending an advice of rights hearing.

Jack was placed on administrative leave without pay, VIPD Media Relations Coordinator Kishma Chichester confirmed Tuesday.

Jack appeared in videos promoting gun buyback programs in January 2022. He was reported as special assistant to the St. Croix police chief in 2017 and again in 2020. In May 2020, as COVID tore through the community, Jack was photographed with Congressional Delegate Stacey Plaskett offering food donations to the needy. In 2005, then-Detective Jack was helping hunt down stolen cars in St. Croix.
