PTA Members, Public Invited to PTSA Meeting and Leadership Training

Parents, Teachers and Students Association

The Congress of Parents, Teachers and Students Association Inc. (USVI PTSA) will hold its annual Meeting and Leadership Training from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 25, at the University of the Virgin Islands’ (UVI) Administration and Conference Center, first floor, at 2 John Brewers Bay, St. Thomas. Election and installation of new officers as well as amendments to Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws will be conducted at this year’s meeting.

This year’s theme, “Building PTA Resilience — Strengthening and Sustaining Our PTA Communities,” is aimed at uniting and encouraging meaningful collaboration and engagement of parents, teachers, students and the community. The goal is to support and rebuild PTAs and to advocate for quality education for children in the territory.

This year, it recognizes community members and volunteers who supported our schools and PTAs during the aftermath of hurricanes Irma and Maria. Leslie Boggs, National PTA president-elect, will be the keynote speaker and will also conduct training sessions for registrants using national PTA communication tools for leadership training. Additionally, behavioral health consultant Berlina Wallace-Berube will conduct a workshop on resiliency for parents.

The registration fee is $25. Members of local PTA units in good standing will receive a $5 discount. Lunch will be provided for registrants. Parents, teachers and students interested in registering for the conference can call 643-7492 or 277-8910 or submit email to secretary.usviptsa@gmail.com for more information.

The pre-registration deadline is Wednesday, May 22. There will also be on-site registration from 8-9 a.m. at UVI on Saturday, May 25.
