A Puerto Rican man was sentenced to 55 months in federal prison after being convicted of cocaine trafficking. Chief Judge Robert A. Molloy handed down the sentence to Carlos Gascot Concepcion, 46, on Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Virgin Islands, United States Attorney Delia L. Smith announced.
The conviction stems from an Oct. 4, 2023, incident at Cyril E. King Airport on St. Thomas. Gascot Concepcion attempted to board a flight to Puerto Rico when U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers inspected his suitcase and discovered a brick-shaped package containing one kilogram of cocaine, according to court documents.
