Red Hook Parking Lot Closes Monday, Dec. 19; Satellite Parking Will Be Open

The parking lot at the Urman V. Fredericks Marine Facility in Red Hook will be officially closed on Monday, December 19 as VIPA prepares to begin construction of a two-level parking garage, announced VIPA Executive Director Carlton Dowe.  Commuter parking will not be allowed at the Fredericks Terminal during construction.

VIPA has prepared a satellite parking lot at Parcel C Estate Nazareth No 1 Red Hook Quarter (adjacent to the Ivanna Eudora Kean High School), said Dowe.  Parking rates at the temporary lot will be $1 per hour or at a reduced rate of $6 per day.  Paid shuttle service to the ferry terminal will be provided by East End Taxi at a cost of $1 per trip.  Travelers are advised to arrive at least 20 minutes prior to departure time if they plan on using the shuttle service.

VIPA had previously announced that the lot could be closed in mid-November, but heavy rains delayed the preparation of the satellite lot.  The construction of the parking garage at the Fredericks Terminal should be completed by November 2017.  Dowe apologized for any inconveniences caused, and asked for the public’s patience as VIPA works to improve its port facilities.  The public may contact the Port Authority’s public relations office at (340) 774-1629 or e-mail MBrathwaite@viport.com.
