Remembering September 11, 2001

American Legion Viggo E. Sewer Post 131 members gathered in Cruz Bay today for the first annual Freedom Walk to honor the memory of the many people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. St. John Administrator Lenoa Smith and about a dozen residents joined American Legion members in the walk, which started at the V.I. National Park VisitorsÂ’ Center and wound around the Frank Powell Park. Back at the visitorsÂ’ center the crowd observed a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., the time when American Airlines Flight 11 hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center in downtown New York City seven years ago. United Airlines Flight 175 hit the South Tower at 9:03 a.m. The Freedom Walk was organized by the American Legion in conjunction with the V.I. National Guard and V.I. Veterans Affairs Office officals.
