Lt. Gov. Tregenza A. Roach left the territory Tuesday, Nov. 29, to attend the 2022 National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) Business Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. At this meeting, the lieutenant governor will present to the full body of NLGA members, and he will extend an official invitation to the upcoming 2023 Business Meeting scheduled to be held in the Virgin Islands.
NLGA conducts meetings annually to discuss state, federal and international affairs relevant to the Offices of the Lieutenant Governor across all 50 states and five U.S. Territories. The Virgin Islands is poised to host the 2023 NLGA Business Meeting and its stakeholders. This has been an ongoing effort of Roach to bring the NLGA and its national partners to the territory.
“This occasion will serve as the first time that the NLGA will hold a meeting in the USVI. There is excitement across the NLGA, and I am pleased to know that the territory will have an opportunity next year to join the list of host locations for the 2023 NLGA Business Meeting,” said Roach.
He will also serve as a moderator for an NLGA Panel Session entitled: Resources for Responding to the Essential Needs of Constituents. In addition, he will join the assembly of lieutenant governors participating in a series of plenary sessions, workshops, panel discussions and committee meetings focused on topics regarding emergency response and leadership, legislative relations, international affairs and trade matters, among other key topics of government operation.
Roach will return to the territory on Saturday, Dec. 3. During his absence, Senate President Donna Frett Gregory will assume the duties of the lieutenant governor, as per the Revised Organic Act of the Virgin Islands.
