A St. Croix man who was already in custody at the John Bell Correctional Facility for larceny was arrested and charged at the facility Thursday with two counts of robbery, the V.I. Police Department reported.
On Feb. 20, at about 10:45 a.m. and at 11:00 a.m., the 911 Emergency Call Center received reports of multiple robberies that occurred in the Christiansted area. The Criminal Investigation Bureau Detectives assigned to the case made contact with the victims in this matter, who indicated that they were robbed. During the investigation, detectives canvassed the area and obtained surveillance photos of the suspect, who was revealed as Koi Thomas, according to the police report.
Additional information was disclosed that Thomas was arrested earlier that day in reference to a larceny that occurred in the Gallows Bay area, and he was being detained at the John Bell Correctional Facility, the police report stated.
On Thursday, at about 9:00 a.m., detectives were dispatched to the John Bell Correctional Facility, where they placed Koi Thomas, 28, under arrest for two counts of robbery in the third degree. Thomas was transported to the Wilbur H. Francis Command Police Station, where he was booked and processed. His bail was set at $25,000, the report stated.
Thomas was remanded back to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing to be held on Friday at the Superior Court, police said.
