Safety Zone Marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month with Activities

During the month of October, The Safety Zone, St. John’s abuse/neglect task force, will host several events in the observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM).

The group will host the The Purple Ribbon Campaign Cocktail Party on Sunday, October 15, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

In honor of those who were killed by domestic violence in the Virgin Islands, The Safety Zone will have their annual Take Back the Night March on Thursday, October 19, from 6 to 9 p.m.  Participants are asked to wear purple ribbons, the color for DVAM.

The youth in the community are asked to participate in this month’s activities in a student writing contest. Students are encouraged to develop a written document expressing their thoughts on “How to End Domestic Violence.”

The contest is open to students in grades 3 to 12 and the deadline for submittals is October 15. Winners will receive recognition and prizes at the Take Back the Night March.
