Samuel Roberts Convicted of Murder

Samuel Roberts was found guilty of murder by a St. Croix Superior Court jury, V.I. Attorney General Denise George announced Tuesday.

Roberts was convicted on Friday of shooting McDonald Samuel to death and wounding Taheem Samuel in 2017 near Eulalie Rivera Elementary School.

On Jan. 31, 2017, police received reports of gunfire at Lorraine Village between Buildings 16 and 17. Police found Samuel of Estate Strawberry unresponsive on the ground with gunshot wounds to the head and chest. Samuel had been shot in the arm and grazed along the right chest, according to court documents.

Both victims were taken to Juan F. Luis Hospital, and Samuel was pronounced dead.

Police were able to retrieve surveillance video and received witness statements during the investigation, and Roberts was arrested in August 2017.

Roberts, who was 20 at the time of the crime, could be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to George.
