The St. Croix Educational Complex High School cheerleading team will be traveling to Orlando, Florida, on Wednesday to compete in the World High School Cheerleading Competition.
The team will perform on two separate days at the ESPN Center in Walt Disney World. Their first performance will be an exhibition and the second performance, the actual competition, is slated for Sunday, according to the press release.
There are seven high schools competing in the small varsity non-tumbling division, including teams from Jamaica, Canada, and the United States. This competition can be viewed live on Varsity TV for a fee. These 12 athletes have worked extremely hard to prepare for this competition, with very few rest days in between practices, the press release stated.
The 12 competing athletes are Azariah Providence, Kristina Horsford, Dainya Simmonds, Aniyah Williams, Melanie Lewis, Se’Kaijah Freeman, Zahaira Cromwell, Terrise Mitchell, Jaelyn Bailey, Nayelis St. Omer, J’Neolise Green and Azirah Mingo, the release stated.
The team is coached by Dana Philogene-Victor, Aniah John and Essi Gaston-Edwards and has received specialized training from David Adam Stafford, a professional with over 25 years of experience in the cheerleading industry, it said.
Cheer Coach Victor and Assistant Coach John emphasized that the team was motivated by this quote, “If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it, then I can achieve it.”
