Senator-at-Large Steven D. Payne Sr., vice-chairman for the Committee on Youth, Sports, Parks and Recreation, has announced that at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7,  at D.C. Canegata Ballpark, his office, through a partnership with Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), will be donating approximately $10,000 worth of baseball equipment to the little league baseball teams of St. Croix at the Little League 2020 Opening Ceremony.

The Amateur Athletic Union is one of the largest, non-profit, multi-sport event organizations in the United States. It is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs throughout the nation.

Subsequently, Sen. Payne released the following statements: “This program provides our students with the necessary on the field fundamentals that are required to play baseball in a safe and competitive environment. As legislators, we must do our part to ensure that essential programs such as these remain steadily available to our youth.”

The senator further said, “Nationally, the little league program uniquely engages the sport to strengthen its participants’ self-esteem and confidence.”

On Jan. 25, an identical event was held for the members of the St. Thomas little league baseball team. At this event, Payne donated new equipment to the team members.
