Island Mixx Volleyball Club took seven teams to Tortola to engage in a two-day volleyball tournament hosted by Sport Vision Academy April 12-13. This was the first leg of a home-and-away series between the two clubs.

The IMVC delegation included two 12-and-under girls teams, two 14-and-under girls teams, two 16-and-under girls teams and one 13-and-under boys team. Over 80 players, coaches, chaperones, and other supporters made the 45-minute ferry ride to the neighboring British Virgin Islands.

This event was born from a conversation between IMVC Club Director Mark Daniel and the owner of SVA, Eustace Freeman. Out of a shared desire to give their players more meaningful competition, Freeman suggested that IMVC could come to Tortola in April, and the BVI teams would travel to St. Thomas in May. Daniel shared the opportunity with his club’s parents; the rest is history.

The second leg of this home-and-away tournament will take place on St. Thomas at Antilles School’s Mark C. Marin Center from May 17-18. Club teams from St. Croix have also been invited to participate. The club hopes this will be a prelude to an annual Virgin Islands Junior Volleyball Championship Tournament.
