St. Croix Man Wanted for 2020 Stabbing Now in Custody

A St. Croix man who allegedly stabbed someone at a nightclub in December of 2020 was extradited back to the territory and was arrested, the V.I. Police Department reported Saturday.

On Dec. 27, 2020, 911 received a report of a stabbing victim at the Aqua Lounge Nite Club on Castle Coakley Road on St. Croix. When officers arrived on scene, they spoke with a victim, who was stabbed multiple times by 38-year-old Roberto Marrero. Members of the Criminal Investigation Bureau responded and investigated the incident, according to the police report.

The investigation revealed that Marrero was involved in an argument with the victim and stabbed the victim multiple times about the body. Marrero fled the scene and thereafter fled the island of St. Croix, evading police capture. A warrant was signed by a magistrate judge of the Superior Court for Marrero’s arrest on June 22, 2022, the police report stated.

The arrest warrant was entered into National Crime Information Center (NCIC), a database for tracking crime-related information. On Aug. 2, Marrero was detained in the State of Georgia for another matter and the NCIC check revealed that he was wanted on St. Croix, the report stated.

Marrero waived extradition and was subsequently returned to St. Croix on Saturday, where he was placed under arrest. He was booked and unable to post bail that was set in the amount of $250,000. He was then transported to the John Bell Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing at the Superior Court scheduled for Monday.
