St. Croix Woman Charged With Bleach Attack

A heated argument between three women at the Walter I.M. Hodge Pavilion houses ended with one throwing bleach on the others, police said Thursday.

The alleged attack took place Wednesday afternoon when onlookers called police to report Tasha Matthew, 40, was throwing items during the dispute, police said. Officers arrived around 2 p.m. to learn Matthew had opened a bottle of Clorox bleach and poured it on two women.

Matthew was charged with second-degree assault and held on $50,000 bail.

Wednesday morning, five hours before the incident, Matthew had posted photos of herself on social media in a state of undress, saying her “man” had lewd photos of other women on his phone “like decoration.”

“… let me post my body them to see how he is going to feel,” she wrote.

In 2017, Matthew faced a charge of attempted murder, as well as assault and weapons charges, for an incident unspecified in court records. A Superior Court judge dropped the charges in 2021, however, as prosecutors failed to advance the case, according to court records.
