St. John Taxi Driver and Passengers Robbed at Gunpoint

A taxi driver and two tourists were robbed at gunpoint on St. John Wednesday, the V.I. Police Department reported.

Around 9:44 p.m., as a taxi driver dropped off two passengers at the Westin Resort, a vehicle blocked the roadway and five men exited the vehicle with guns. They demanded valuables from the taxi driver and the passengers who were visiting the island. The men then left the area in an unknown direction. No one was injured during this incident, according to the police report.

St. Thomas, St. John, Water Island Chief Steven Phillip stated, “There’s an operational plan in place to eradicate these rash of robberies that’s been taking place. We’ve expanded our patrols and will have more visibility. We will not allow these individuals to have our community live in fear. The VIPD is committed to take away these opportunities from these criminals.”
