St. Thomas Business Owner Arrested for Fraud

A St. Thomas business owner surrendered to the authorities on Tuesday for not refunding a client after failing to complete a job, the V.I. Police Department reported.

On March 6, 2023, the Economic Crime Unit initiated an investigation into an incident of alleged obtaining money by false pretenses. The complainant reported giving over $25,000 to Damian McAleavey, owner of Love Your Kitchen and Bath, LLC, for kitchen cabinet and countertop remodeling. Investigation revealed that McAleavey failed to renovate the complainant’s cabinets and countertops and declined to refund the payments made for the renovation, according to the police report.

On Tuesday, McAleavey, 48,  surrendered to the Economic Crime Unit detectives and he was placed under arrest for obtaining money by false pretense and grand larceny, the police report stated.

Based on the incident, McAleavey’s bail was set in the amount of $20,000. McAleavey was transported to the Richard N. Callwood Command where he was booked and processed. He was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing, the report stated.
