A high school student from St. Thomas has won a national level computer science award. Mireille “Mimi” Boumedine, 15, has been selected as a national recipient of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing.
Boumedine joins 40 other students who were honored. She is enrolled in 10th grade at Virgin Islands Montessori School & Peter Gruber International Academy.
She will receive various prizes, cash and a trip to Bank of America headquarters on March 6-8 for a celebration and networking with Bank of America employees.
The National Center for Women in Information Technology (NCWIT) Aspirations in Computing program recognizes female high school students annually for their “aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access, and plans for post-secondary education” (www.aspirations.org).
Mimi’s application was selected from over 4,700 applicants for this honor.
