The St. Thomas Yacht Club’s (STYC) St. Thomas Sailing Center (STSC) will hold its Fall Open House on Nov. 3 from 1 to 4 p.m. and offer free half-hour sailboat rides with refreshments.
Attendees will have the chance to ride the rail or take the tiller to drive a sturdy 24-foot sailboat called an IC24 or jump on a 13-foot two-person Hobie Wave catamaran for a joyride. Each type of boat is captained by an experienced skipper ready to share their passion for the sport and pointers in a firsthand, fun-filled way. The STSC’s Fall Open House will also offer discounts and information on its many sailing courses and boat access program. Everyone in the community is encouraged to attend, according to the press release.
“Sailing is something we thought would be fun to try sometime. The girls love the water. They had so much fun,” says Presly Georges, who attended the January 2024 event with his two daughters, ages 5 and 7.

Lynn and Matt Morgan, from Edina, Minnesota, also enjoyed the STSC Open House. “We had signed up to take the Learn to Sail course in January 2024 and heard about the Open House before our class started. It was the first time we sailed in the Caribbean, and we were amazed by how easy our skipper made it look. When she told us that she and her husband decided to move to St. Thomas to sail out of the Sailing Center, it planted a seed. We are now full-time residents of the island,” Lynn Morgan said.
Robert ‘Bobby’ Brooks, STSC director, invites the public to come out to the Open House for an unforgettable day of sailing. “Experience the beauty of our surrounding islands while learning about our wide range of sailing courses, from Discover Sailing to Intro to Hobie, and full certification programs. As a club member, you’ll also have access to our boat programs, making it easy to set sail whenever you wish. Don’t miss our exciting raffles, where you could win half off on a Learn to Sail course or a sunset cruise for four on our luxurious Hanse 385. With exceptional instructors, safe and comfortable vessels, and a stunning backdrop, there’s no better way to start your sailing adventure!”
No reservations are necessary. Sign in when you arrive, and the STSC staff will call your party when your boat is ready to board, the press release stated.
The STSC is located at the STYC on Cowpet Bay, in Estate Nazareth, adjacent to the Anchorage Condominiums. In addition to refreshments, The Galley Bar & Restaurant, located at STYC, will be open for lunch, the release stated.
