STT-STJ Public Schools Resume Classes Thursday; Some on STX Will be Virtual

All public schools in the St. Thomas-St. John District will operate on their regular schedules on Thursday, while some St. Croix schools will be in-person and others will be virtual due to the inclement weather this week, the Education Department announced Wednesday night.

The department cautioned, however, that the public should be aware that weather conditions can potentially change. Parents, guardians, and students are asked to stay vigilant regarding any new information that may be shared through official VIDE and media channels Thursday morning.

In the St. Thomas-St. John District, all public schools will operate on their regular schedules.

On St. Croix, the following schools will operate on their regular schedules:

▪ PreK-6: Ricardo Richards, Lew Muckle, and Claude O. Markoe

▪ PreK-8: Juanita Gardine

▪ St. Croix Educational Complex High School

Due to the impact caused by adverse weather conditions and to ensure the continuity of education, the following public school sites will transition to virtual learning on Thursday, the department said. Teachers will provide instructional links through the Parent Portal and via student emails. Following campus assessments, an update will be provided regarding the return to in-person learning at these school sites.

▪ Alfredo Andrews PreK-6

▪ Pearl B. Larsen PreK-8

▪ Eulalie Rivera PreK-8

▪ St. Croix Central High School

  • John H. Woodson Jr. High School — virtual instruction from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday and Friday to allow teachers to prepare classrooms for the first day back on campus Monday.

A virtual family meeting for parents and students will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday via Zoom, the department said. The release did not provide a link for the meeting.
