The V.I. Government Hospital and Health Facilities Corporation Territorial Board met on Monday to discuss the territory hospitals’ quarterly human resources report along with other matters.

Dr. Jerry Smith said the Human Resource Committee met on Jan. 31 to discuss the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Schneider Regional Medical Center district hospital quarterly human resources report and review the new district hospital human resources dashboard template. The review was to compare the human resources data of both hospitals as well as compliance in certain key human resources indicators.

“We’ve been working for quite some time now getting uniformed data across the territory. Often times each of the hospital’s professionals would give reports. Often times those reports are not comparable because they do not have the same metrics,” Smith said.

“The way they may be calculated may be different, so it’s hard to use a standard reference to see what they really mean in the big picture. This document allows for us to have a standardized way of looking at the data received from each of the respective districts and be able to compare it moving forward,” he continued.

Members also suggested adapting the template to change it from time to time as needed. Health Department Commissioner Encarnacion added, “One of the things that I know we need to make sure is whatever changes is made in the future that they are made consistently and we have a template that we are able to compare hospitals so that we know where we need to go  and if we can ensure that is mapped out that will be great as well.” To which Smith agreed.

Faye John-Baptiste also reported for the “improvement committee” on behalf of the JFL Medical Executive Committee. The committee recommended board approval of Dr. Hakima Aouchiche for medical staff privileges in critical care specialty to start on Feb. 12 to July 11. Dr. Aouchiche is credentialed in internal medicine from July 12, 2023, to July 11.

Also, recommendations for Dr. Lloyd Henry to be added to the honorary category were discussed at the meeting.

The next territorial board meeting is scheduled for March 6, starting at 5 p.m.  There were also legal matters and other financial reports to discuss, which the board discussed in executive session.

Christopher Finch, Dr. Jerry Smith, Jenifer O’Neal, Dr. Frank Odlum, Dr. Greta Hart Hyndman and Faye John-Baptiste were in attendance at Monday’s meeting.
