Traffic Stop Leads to the Arrest of Two and One Handgun Confiscated

On June 4 at 2:40 a.m. on St. Thomas, V.I. Police Department officers made a traffic stop over the unauthorized use of a vehicle, which led to the discovery of a handgun. During the stop, officers also detected an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to a report on the incident.

When the officers further inspected the vehicle, a loaded black, unmarked 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number and several 9mm cartridges were discovered in a black bag located on the driver’s seat near the center console, the report stated. Neither the driver nor passenger in the vehicle indicated that they obtained a license to carry a firearm in the Virgin Islands, according to the report.

Kiante Christopher, 23, and Shyrah Isacc, 24, were arrested and charged with constructive possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession of ammunition, and possession of a firearm within a thousand feet of a church, the report stated.

Their bail was set at $75,000 each. Christopher and Isaac were remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending their advice of rights hearing.
