Two Hurt in High-Speed Police Chase, Shooter On The Loose

Two people were hospitalized and a third is lucky to be alive after a Sunday evening shooting led to a high-speed police chase on Melvin H. Evans Highway.

A St. Croix motorist flagged down a Virgin Islands Police officer around 8 p.m. Sunday, saying someone had fired a gun at their vehicle near the William Roebuck Industrial Park entrance.

The VIPD patrol unit soon spotted the lone suspect’s blue car, police said. The male driver led police on a high-speed chase eastbound on the highway that ended when he hit another car with two people inside by the East Airport Road intersection.

The suspect immediately abandoned the vehicle and escaped into nearby bushes.

The car-crash victims complained of pain and were transported to Juan F. Luis Hospital for observation and treatment. They were later released. The person who was shot at was not injured, police said.

This incident is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives. Police urge anyone with information to call 340-778-4850, 340-712-6092, 1-800-222-8477, or 911.
