USVI Soccer Association Selects Women U-17 National Soccer Team

U.S. Virgin Islands Women Under-17 National Soccer team has been selected

The USVI Soccer Association announces the selection of the U.S. Virgin Islands Women Under 17 National Soccer team. The USVI Soccer Association has been preparing the Women U17 national team to participate in an upcoming Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) 2019 Women’s U17 Qualifying Tournament. The USVI is one of 16 teams participating in Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Qualifying Round in hopes of earning a berth in the 2020 Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Championship.

The qualifying round matches will be played on Wednesday, Aug. 21, Friday, Aug. 23 and wrap up on Sunday, Aug. 25. The teams will be split into four groups of four and will play a round robin format with the winner of each group advancing to the 2020 Women’s Under 17.

Twenty-one young women and staff from the USVI will be hosted by Barbados, along with Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Belize at the Wildey Astro Turf Stadium in Wildey, Barbados, in what should be a very exciting Group C.

Many young women have been training several days a week and for several months throughout the territory for the opportunity to represent the USVI. Not everyone could be selected; the players that did not make the cut are encouraged to keep training as well as improving their soccer skills and game aptitude. The USVI Soccer Association will continue to provide opportunities for young people to train and excel at soccer. The coaching and technical staff has picked the most dedicated, skilled and committed young women.
