A delegation from the U.S. Virgin Islands Soccer Federation is en route to Paraguay for the 75th FIFA Congress, set to convene Thursday in Asunción, according to a press release issued Tuesday.
Representing the territory at this year’s international gathering are USVISF President Yohannes Worede, Vice President for St. Thomas-St. John John P. deJongh, and General Secretary Firas Idheileh, the press release stated.
The FIFA Congress is the highest legislative body in global football. It brings together representatives from all FIFA Member Associations to vote on policy decisions, review strategic initiatives, and shape the future of the sport. This year’s session will emphasize continued commitments to governance, development, and unity across the international football community, the release stated.
According to the USVI Soccer Federation, its delegates will take part in discussions on global initiatives, funding opportunities, and long-term strategies designed to elevate the standard of play worldwide. The Congress also offers a platform to collaborate with FIFA leadership, regional confederations, and fellow national associations.
“The USVI Soccer Federation remains committed to transparency, responsible governance, and sustainable growth,” the organization said in the release. “Through its participation in the FIFA Congress, the Federation continues to advocate for the advancement of football in the territory and beyond.”
The U.S. Virgin Islands Soccer Federation promotes soccer development throughout the territory by supporting local clubs and athletes and encouraging lifelong engagement with the sport.
