USVI to Celebrate Women Veterans and V.I.’s Eldest Veteran at June 10th Ceremony

For the first time, the governor will sign a proclamation designating June 12 as “Women Veterans Recognition Day” in the Virgin Islands.

This day will consist of a proclamation signing ceremony hosted by Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. and Lt. Gov. Tregenza Roach Esq. at Government House on St. Croix. The event will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, June 10. Wear business attire, please.

In addition to women veterans being celebrated, Government House will celebrate Abraham Hewitt Sr., who is the eldest veteran in the territory and will be celebrating 100 years of life on his next birthday, June 10.

Women veterans are asked to join attend the ceremony as Virgin Islanders celebrate such an auspicious occasion on their behalf. For planning purposes, all female veterans intending to attend this event should RSVP by calling the Office of Veterans Affairs in their island districts.

Those women veterans from the St. Thomas-St. John District who plan to attend, should contact Mrs. Gordon at 727-8390 as soon as possible. Space is limited and will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis.
