The U.S. Virgin Islands will gain new and expanded flight service from American Airlines this winter, broadening travel access from the Midwest just in time for the peak tourism season, the V.I. Tourism Department announced.
Starting Dec. 6, American Airlines will introduce new Saturday service between Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Henry E. Rohlsen Airport on St. Croix. Less than two weeks later, on Dec. 18, the airline will expand its Chicago O’Hare to Cyril E. King Airport route on St. Thomas from a once-weekly flight to daily service, according to the press release.
“These expanded routes from one of our key gateway cities reflect the strong and growing demand for travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands,” said Joseph Boschulte, commissioner of Tourism. “We thank American Airlines for their continued partnership and investment in our destination. This increased connectivity will not only enhance convenience for our visitors but also support our tourism-driven economy and the many businesses that rely on it.”
The additional flights underscore the U.S. Virgin Islands’ appeal as a premier Caribbean destination during the high-demand winter season, especially among leisure travelers seeking warm-weather escapes, the press release stated.
