VI University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Hires Part-time Job Coaches VI University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD) is looking for job coaches on St. Thomas and St. Croix to assist persons with disabilities in acquiring employment skills from July 22 to Dec. 2019.

Interested candidates must be available for flexible hours: 10-hour maximum per week between the hours 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. and have the ability to learn all aspects of the assigned work sites. There will be a mandatory, weeklong training in disability methodologies from July 22 through July 25.

Candidates must complete and pass an APSE certification exam.

Job coaches should be able to seek input from participants and family members as well as communicate participant progress to appropriate team members, supervisors, stakeholders, significant others, counselors and team members when conducting services. Completing session notes and data on client interaction, assisting in pre-employed, employment and post-employment transition activities are also required.
Job coaches will work with persons with disabilities by fulfilling duties that include:
· Ensuring participant safety by familiarizing participants with safety rules and regulations at their work or volunteer sites.
· Provide life skills instruction as it relates to employment goals and building participant independence at work and in the community
Provide vocational instruction for teaching participants work tasks and appropriate social skills whether on-site or during job skills training groups.
Maintain regular communication with employers to review productivity and quality of work
Facilitates implementation of the Person-Centered Plan
Facilitates client transportation to workplace and community settings.
The following are the necessary requirements:
High school diploma or its equivalent
Clear background check
Experience working with people with an intellectual disability is preferred
Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a liability-free driving record
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to bend, reach, stand, push, and pull
Basic computer skills a plus
Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of participants, their family members, and staff
Demonstrates knowledge of educational techniques
Ability and willingness to achieve, attend and maintain all ASPE trainings and certifications
Knowledge of and commitment to follow safety protocols and procedures
Calm under pressure
Creative, out of the box thinker with a preference for working in a team generating ideas to assist in planning facilitative programs.
