The University of the Virgin Island (UVI) has canceled the remainder of the 2022-2023 women’s basketball schedule.

The Bucs were 0-5 this season and last played on Nov. 4 in the UVI HBCU Basketball Classic.

The season had to be canceled for the second semester due to a number of injuries as well as some ineligible players.

“It is an unfortunate situation that we are dealing with, and we had to make the tough decision to cancel the rest of the women’s basketball season here at the University of the Virgin Islands,” said Henville Pole, interim director of athletics at the University of the Virgin Islands. “We look forward to building our roster size up over the coming months and being back for the 2023-2024 season.”

To that end, UVI has tapped Shannon Taylor, the men’s head coach, as the interim women’s head coach while the university begins the search to replace Coach Lynika Collins, who recently separated from the university.
